Requirements to Study in Singapore

All International Students interested to study in Singapore need a Student Pass that can be obtained through the Singapore consulate on evidence of confirmed enrolment in an academic programme and evidence of funds in bank to support the student through the period of education. The Student's visa process is done by the institutions. The normal processing time for a new application is about 4 weeks(2 weeks for institutions with EduTrust (PEO) status). However, some applications may take a longer time to process. The local sponsor and education institution will be notified of the outcome of the application by post. To live and work in Singapore, foreign nationals must have a work permit or an employment pass.

Type of Singapore student visa:

Student Pass - In Singapore, every visa is referred to as a ‘Pass’ like Student Pass, employment pass and social visit pass etc.

You must submit new applications for Student Pass at least one month before your course starts and not more than two months. To apply for the Student Pass, you must submit your application on the official registration system -- Student’s Pass On-Line Application & Registration (SOLAR) system. All international students except Immigration Exemption Order holders have to apply for the Student Pass, if they want to pursue full-time studies in Singapore’s IHL.

Students who have completed class 10 or 12 in India, are eligible for polytechnic courses. Class 12 students are eligible to apply for undergraduate programmes at local universities. For undergraduate programmes admission is as per the entry requirements for each programme. The criteria for entering Singapore's public institutes are generally quite high and competitive.International students can also apply to private educational organisations (PEO's)which offer courses from certificate to postgraduate levels. PEOs conduct their own admission and applicants should check the application procedure with the PEO directly or seek advice from certified Singapore education Specialists.

Intake :

The Main intake for the Government University is August and few courses have February intake. The Polytechnics have April/September intake, and the private Education Organisation have multiple intakes (Jan /Feb /July /Aug /Sep /Oct /etc ).

Living Expenses:

Singapore offers a high, yet affordable, quality of life. The cost of living in Singapore is significantly lower than that of developed countries such as Australia, UK and USA. An international student in Singapore spends on average about SGD 750 to SGD 2,000 a month on living expenses, including accommodation, utilities, food, transport, clothing, telecommunications, books, medical and personal expenses (These estimates serve as reference only).

Accommodation:

There is wide variety of accommodation in Singapore to suit different budgets and needs. Student should make arrangements before their arrival. Temporary accommodation can be arranged giving student more time to settle. Student can seek the help of the International Student Officer available at most institutes. Some of the housing options available include residence halls, private hostel, home-stays, public and private apartments/ house.
